Brazil uses the Brazilian real (BRL). Cards are accepted in hotels and larger restaurants but cash is necessary in rural areas and small restaurants. Brazil is affordable to mid-range for Western Europeans, but prices vary considerably by region.

Brazil is vast with very different climates. Rio de Janeiro and the southeast: April–October (dry season) is best. Amazon: dry season (June–November) is easiest. Pantanal: July–September (dry season) for wildlife. Carnival (Rio, Salvador) is in February/March.

The Pantanal is the world's largest tropical wetland and offers Brazil's best wildlife encounters. Unlike the Amazon, the vegetation is thinner and animals are easier to see: jaguars, capybaras, giant otters, hyacinth macaws. Cuiabá or Corumbá are the entry points.

Brasília (federal capital) is a UNESCO World Heritage city — a futuristic capital built from scratch in 1960. Oscar Niemeyer's architecture (National Palace, Cathedral, National Museum) is extraordinarily worth seeing. São Paulo has Latin America's most vibrant restaurant and arts scene.
