Frequently Asked Questions

Hungary eSIM

Hungary has excellent 4G/LTE coverage in Budapest and the main cities. In the countryside the signal can thin out but for most travel routes it is good. Budapest also has widespread 5G.
After purchase you'll get a QR code by email. Go to your phone settings, tap 'Add eSIM' and scan the code. Done in two minutes. Best to set it up at home — so you land in Budapest already online.
Budapest has Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD), about 16km from the city centre. It is the country's only major international airport. From here all major European and many intercontinental destinations are reachable.
Hungary uses the Hungarian forint (HUF). Cards are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants and shops in Budapest. At markets, small shops and in rural areas cash is often preferred. Hungary is significantly cheaper than western Europe.
Spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October) are ideal — pleasant temperatures and Budapest at its most beautiful. Summer is warm and lively but hot and touristy. Winter is cold but Budapest's Christmas markets and thermal baths in the snow are a special experience.

HungaryUseful tips for your trip

Budapest's thermal baths are a genuine cultural experience, not a tourist gimmick. The Széchenyi baths in the city park and the Gellért baths on Castle Hill are the most famous. Visit on a weekday morning for the most authentic experience. Bring swimwear and rent a towel on-site.

Budapest is really two cities — Buda on the west side of the Danube with Castle Hill, Fisherman's Bastion and Géllért Hill, and Pest on the flat east side with Parliament, the Great Market Hall and the ruin bar district. Plan at least three days to do both sides justice.

Budapest's ruin bars (romkocsmak) are a global phenomenon — abandoned buildings in the Jewish quarter converted into bars and cultural hubs. Szimpla Kert is the original and most famous ruin bar, and on Sunday mornings it also hosts a farmers' market.

Hungarian goulash (gulyás) is actually a soup, not a stew — and it's excellent everywhere. Lángos (deep-fried dough with garlic, sour cream or cheese) is the perfect street food. Also try chimney cake (kürtőskalács) — the original is Hungarian and from Budapest, not a tourist invention.

Lake Balaton, central Europe's largest freshwater lake, is just one hour from Budapest. In summer it's full of Hungarian holidaymakers — making it a genuinely local experience. The south shore has the shallower beaches, the north shore the dramatic hills and wine cellars. Balatonfüred and Tihany are the most beautiful villages.

Hungary — Budapest with thermal baths, the Parliament building and ruin bars, Lake Balaton and Hungarian wine regions. Order your eSIM, get your QR code instantly, set up before you fly. Connected in Budapest, Debrecen and everywhere, no roaming.
