Frequently Asked Questions

Andorra eSIM

Andorra has excellent 4G/LTE coverage in Andorra la Vella and most tourist areas. The tiny country (468 km²) is very well covered. In the highest mountain areas the signal can be slightly weaker.
After purchase you'll get a QR code by email. Go to your phone settings, tap 'Add eSIM' and scan the code. Done in two minutes. Best to set it up at home before you drive up to Andorra.
Andorra has no airport of its own. The nearest airports are Barcelona (BCN), about 2.5 hours away, and Toulouse (TLS) in France, about 2 hours. Regular bus connections run from Barcelona to Andorra. Many visitors also drive through the Pyrenees.
Andorra uses the euro (EUR) even though it is not an EU member. Cards are accepted everywhere. Andorra is famous for cheaper prices on alcohol, tobacco, electronics and perfumes thanks to low VAT (4.5% instead of 20%). Shopping is a major draw for many visitors.
Winter (December–March) is ski season — Grandvalira is one of the largest ski resorts in the Pyrenees. Summer (June–September) is ideal for hiking and cycling. Spring and autumn are quieter and cheaper. Shopping is possible year-round.

Travel Tips

AndorraUseful tips for your trip

Andorra is a microstate between Spain and France in the Pyrenees — only 468 km² but its own nation with its own laws. Not an EU member, not in Schengen, own VAT rate. Watch out when shopping: there are customs import limits per person when crossing back into Spain or France.

The Grandvalira ski resort is the largest in the Pyrenees with 210km of pistes across several gondola-linked sectors. In summer the same slopes are used for mountain biking and hiking. Vallnord is a smaller, quieter ski resort in the northwest.

Andorra la Vella is Europe's highest capital city (1023m). The main shopping street Meritxell is the heart of city life. The historic quarter Barri Antic is tiny but charming. The Casa de la Vall (the old parliament building) is open for tours and shows Andorra's unique microstate character.

The Pyrenean landscape around Andorra is beautiful for hiking. In summer hikers can explore the Madriu-Perafita-Claror valley (UNESCO World Heritage). Mountain lakes, ibex and dramatic cirques are highlights of the landscape. The country has over 1000km of marked trails.

Andorra makes a great day trip or weekend from Barcelona (2.5 hours) or Toulouse (2 hours). The combination of skiing, shopping and mountain scenery is unique. Spa hotels and thermal facilities are well developed in Andorra. Caldea is one of Europe's largest spa complexes.

Andorra is tiny but the ski slopes and duty-free shopping are massive. Buy your eSIM before you go — instant delivery, no roaming, no SIM hassle. On the slopes or in the streets, always connected.
