Frequently Asked Questions

Finland eSIM

Finland has excellent 4G/LTE coverage in Helsinki, Tampere, Turku and other cities. In sparsely populated northern parts of Lapland and deep in forests the signal can thin out. For wilderness adventures, offline maps are recommended.
After purchase you'll get a QR code by email. Go to your phone settings, tap 'Add eSIM' and scan the code. Done in two minutes. Best to set it up at home — so you land in Helsinki already online.
Helsinki has Helsinki-Vantaa Airport (HEL), the country's main international airport and one of the key links between Europe and Asia. Other airports include Tampere-Pirkkala (TMP), Turku (TKU), Oulu (OUL), Rovaniemi (RVN) in Lapland and Ivalo (IVL) for the remote Arctic.
Finland uses the euro (EUR). Cards are accepted everywhere and cash is barely needed — Finland is one of the most cashless countries in the world. Finland is more expensive than the European average but cheaper than Norway or Switzerland.
Summer (June–August) is most popular for Helsinki and the lake region — long days and midnight sun. Winter (December–March) is ideal for Lapland, Northern Lights, husky safaris and the Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi. Spring and autumn are quieter and cooler.

Travel Tips

FinlandUseful tips for your trip

Finnish sauna is a way of life, not a wellness option. Every Finn goes to sauna regularly — at home, at a cabin or in public saunas. Lakeside saunas are quintessential Finland: sweat, then jump into the lake regardless of water temperature. In Helsinki there are public saunas like Löyly and Kulttuurisauna.

Lapland in winter offers Northern Lights, reindeer safaris, husky sled rides and a visit to Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi. January to March is best for Northern Lights. The village in Rovaniemi actually runs year-round — in summer you can meet Santa Claus in the middle of the midnight sun.

The Finnish lake district is dreamily beautiful in summer. By rental canoe or motorboat you can paddle through the lakes for days. The area around Savonlinna, Punkaharju and Saimaa is especially beautiful. Mökki holidays (cottage by the lake) are what real Finns do in summer.

Finnish food is simple and delicious. Try karjalanpiirakka (Karelian pies with rice filling and egg butter), salmon soup with cream and dill, reindeer steak or goulash in Lapland and mustikkapiirakka (blueberry pie). Coffee culture is huge in Finland — the country drinks more coffee per capita than almost anywhere else.

Helsinki is one of Europe's greenest and most design-conscious capitals. Suomenlinna fortress island is reachable by ferry and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Market Square (Kauppatori) by the harbour is the city's heart in summer. Scandinavian design shops cluster around the Design District Helsinki.

Finland — the Northern Lights, thousands of lakes, sauna culture and Helsinki, one of Europe's most liveable cities. Order your eSIM, get your QR code instantly, set up before you fly. Connected in Helsinki, Rovaniemi and everywhere, no roaming.
