Is my phone carrier-unlocked, and how do I check?

For an eSIM to work, your phone must be carrier-unlocked. On iPhone, go to Settings > General > About — if it says 'No SIM restrictions', it's unlocked. On Android, ask your carrier or test with another carrier's SIM. To be sure, checking with the carrier you bought the phone from is the most reliable way.
