Why do some Chinese or Hong Kong versions of phones not support eSIM?

Mainland China iPhones have no eSIM (they use dual physical SIM), and some Hong Kong and Macau models don't either. For other brands, variants from those regions may also ship with eSIM disabled, often due to local regulations. If you bought the phone there, dial *#06#: no EID means no eSIM.
